A confusing moment occurred on Day 2 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 match between South Africa and Australia at Lord's. South African batter David Bedingham found himself at the centre of a strange incident that made everyone discuss it. The incident occurred in the opening session of the Day 2 of the WTC Final. Australian all-rounder Beau Webster bowled a length ball which moved slightly from the pitch. David Bedingham, who was settled at the wicket, attempted to block it with the front face of his bat, but the ball struck the inside edge of his bat and got wedged in the flap of his front pad. He quickly extracted the ball and put it on the ground. Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey came running forward to collect it, but the ball was already on the ground before Carey could get his hands under it. Bedingham's casual action created some uncertainty among Australian players, commentators, and fans. Replays indicated that Australian opener Usman Khawaja indicated an appeal for "handling the ball." Umpire Richard Illingworth had a conversation with his counterpart Chris Gaffaney and then issued the ball as "dead." This raised questions if the appeal was genuine. The peculiar moment didn't result in a wicket, but it contributed another intriguing moment to the WTC Final. With everything riding on it, the incident is bound to be discussed much after the day's play. Coming to the game, Australia bundled out South Africa for mere 138. Pat Cummins was the man of the moment as the Aussie skipper bagged six wickets by giving away just 28 runs. Currently, the Aussies are leading with more than 150 runs they will hope to extend the lead and take it over 200 in order to give their bowlers a fair chance in this Finale.
