On Day 1 of the opening Test between New Zealand and England, the visitors won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first. Devon Conway and Tom Latham opened the innings for NZ, but the partnership couldn't survive for long as Conway walked back to the dugout, thanks to a splendid return catch by Gus Atkinson. On the last ball of the second over, Atkinson bowled a ball a fuller delivery outside the off-stump and Conway attempted for a drive despite the ball not being pitched at a driving length. Conway, who already committed the shot, met the ball before it reached him and ultimately ended up pushing it to towards the bowler as the bat twisted a bit in attempt of a drive. Atkinson, who was in his follow-through, made no errors to grab a stunner with both the hands. This return catch by Gus shortened the innings of Conway as the batter had to depart at just 2 runs off 8 balls.
