Glenn Phillips almost pulled off an outstanding catch during the 15th over of Sri Lanka's innings, and it got everyone talking. Mitchell Santner bowled a tossed-up delivery outside off and Fernando drove it hard. The ball did not quite come out well as it came off the toe of the bat and took off towards the covers. Phillips was placed at covers and saw his chance early. He leaped to the left, fully airborne, reaching out with everything he had to. He made a spectacular attempt, but the ball slipped through his fingers and went for four. Though he missed it by a fraction of an inch, Phillips' acrobatic leap pleased fans and was full of applause from the ones who watched. The game was turned around when Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando came together to rebuild the Sri Lanka innings. The two got settled soon and took the proceedings from there. Mendis reached his fifty in 64 balls, and Fernando saw them follow closely to get his in 60 balls. Mendis finishes his century in the 37th over as he does this for the first time in a home game since 2020. The next ball sees Fernando hit a four to take the partnership to 200 runs.
