Australia won the first match of the three-match T20I series against South Africa by 17 runs in Darwin on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The victory was also their ninth consecutive win in T20Is, a new record for the team. While Tim David's powerful batting and Josh Hazlewood's crucial wickets were major contributors to the victory, the highlight of the moment came in the form of Glenn Maxwell's incredible fielding in the last over. Glenn Maxwell's Stunning Boundary-Line Catch Glenn Maxwell gave a low-key performance with the bat, but he gave his 100 percent in the field with an incredible catch reminiscent of Suryakumar Yadav's grab during the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Having 21 runs remaining off the final 5 balls, Ryan Rickelton attempted to hammer Ben Dwarshuis for six down long-on. Maxwell, who was at the ropes' edge, jumped over the ropes into the air, tossed the ball back into play in mid-air, landed outside the ropes, and immediately jumped back in to finish the catch. The action concluded Rickelton's belligerent knock of 71 runs off 55 balls and wrapped up Australia's victory. Darwin's crowd went wild as his teammates celebrated. Tim David scored 83 off 52, striking eight sixes. Cameron Green chipped in with 35 off 13 balls. For South Africa, young 18-year-old pacer Kwena Maphaka impressed with 4 wickets for 20 runs, being the youngest bowler for an ICC full member to have taken four wickets in a T20I. During the pursuit, Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs (37) added 72 runs, but the game was turned around by Josh Hazlewood's double strike in the 15th over. Hazlewood finished with 3 for 27, while Dwarshuis had 3 for 26. Maxwell's magic catch sealed the deal. The second T20I will also be held in Darwin on Tuesday where South Africa will aim to level the series while the hosts will look to seal a series win.
