In the knockout game of the Big Bash League 2024-25 between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder at Sydney, George Garton stunned the Melbourne Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis and the crowd with his jaw-dropping catch. On the second delivery of the eleventh over of the chase, Chris Green bowled a length ball outside the off stump and Stoinis attempted for a pull, but the connection happened with the toe of the bat which resulted into a shot with low power. The ball went down to the deep mid-wicket region where the Thunder's fielder, George Garton grabbed a ripper. He leaped forward and swooped it rapidly to get rid of the Stars Skipper. His magnificent effort at the mid-wicket, just after finishing his over, helped Chris Green to get his sole wicket in this match. However, 36 from Oliver Davies and a couple of hits from Tom Andrews at the end helped their side to post 135 in 19 overs. The easy looking chase kept on getting difficult after the Stars' innings got tumbled rapidly. They lost their opener Sam Harper on the third deliver of the first over, followed by two more wickets inside five overs. Maxwell and Stoinis steered the innings from 27-3 to 65 before a spectacular catch from Garton shortened the innings of Stoinis for 15. Since then, the Stars kept on losing wickets at regular intervals to eventually get bundled out for 114. Nathan McAndrew of the Sydney Thunder was adjudged as the player of the match for his five-wicket haul. With this win, the Thunder has made their way to the Challenger where they will face the Sydney Sixers in a clash to secure the spot in the Final.
