India's six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match in Dubai was impressive on paper, but the bigger tale unfolded once the match ended. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was observed issuing a significant directive to Indian cricketers, stating, "Are umpire se to mil le", requesting that they at least greet the match officials. As soon as Tilak Varma delivered the winning boundary, completing India's chase at 174/4, the Indian batters headed straight back to the dressing room without greeting the Pakistani players. Later on, a few players returned to the field to shake hands with umpires and match referee Andy Pycroft, as advised by Gambhir. This reflected that although India stood strong against Pakistan, they still respected officials handling the game. The same was witnessed at the toss. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav also shunned shaking hands with Pakistan skipper Salman Agha and instead went straight to commentator Ravi Shastri and the match referee. The act, or lack thereof, is now one of the defining narratives of this Asia Cup. India's Strong Performance on the Field On the ground, India was in control. Young opener Abhishek Sharma played a stellar 74 off 39 balls, which set the tone for the innings, and he was well and truly assisted by Surya's deputy Shubman Gill who score quick 47. Tilak Varma helped complete the innings in a smooth manner, leading India to chase the target with seven balls to spare. The Indian bowlers were no less impressive, keeping Pakistan to 171/5 despite four dropped catches. Although Bumrah went for runs, the disciplined bowling effort by others set the stage for India's victory and reflected the strength of the team as a whole.
