Indian top pacer Mohammed Shami pointed out Rohit Sharma's leadership on the field—balancing freedom with responsibility. Rohit's calm nature allows teammates to play their natural game while making sure they understand what is expected of them. He provides feedback where needed and, if a player does not turn up to the mark, his subtle reactions get the point across without his having to say much. Shami revealed this during an awards ceremony where he also went on to point out that Rohit is a captain who does not bind the players with too much pressure but allows them to play freely and strike at will. During an award function, Shami said: "The best thing about Rohit is that he gives you freedom. Agar aap uske hisaab se sahi nahi utre, to unke thode se reaction bahar aane lagte hain. Wo aapko bateyga ki aapko ye karna tha, ya ye chaiye tha. [The best thing about Rohit is that he gives you freedom. If you don't meet his expectations, his reactions start to show a little. He'll let you know that you should have done this or that was needed.]" He further added: "Fir bhi aap uspe khare nahi utre, toh fir jo hum screen pe jo reactions dekhte hain, jo hum bina bole samajh jaate hain na, wo aane lagta hai [But if you still don’t live up to it, then the reactions we see on the screen, the ones we understand without him saying anything, start to come out]" Watch the video here: Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami talking about their captain Rohit Sharma.🥹The Captain, the leader, the legend @ImRo45 🐐 pic.twitter.com/DmXJ7YaegC — 𝐑𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐢𝐢⁴⁵ (@rushiii_12) August 21, 2024 Rohit became only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to clinch victory in the T20 WC.
