Cricket is just not a sport in India but a passion uniting millions of people. There was an instance recently where cricket fever was very unusual. The incident happened at a local cricket match in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. It was in a 7T7T cricket tournament organised by Varun Patil, BJP's Kalyan city president, which was being played at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan. It was a seven-over match and the batting skills of two of the players, Pawan and Fardeen, had thrilled the crowd. Pawan played an explosive inning, scoring 35 runs off just nine balls, while Fardeen provided steady support with 31 runs from 17 balls. Their team had reached 84 runs in six overs, losing only two wickets. One fan in the stands was so impressed by Pawan's batting that he came on to the field and began throwing money as a form of appreciation. Instead of small denominations, however, he threw ₹500 notes that took everyone by surprise. He later gave a hug to Pawan and before leaving the ground. Although few considered it a gesture and appreciation for Pawan's performance, many criticized this act. Indians on social networking sites and other portals termed it a disrespect to the Indian currency and insult to the nation. The video has led to a discussion on how the fans express their love for the game. Even though cricket remains a source of joy and unity, such incidents remind everyone that even in moments of excitement, one should not forget to show respect.
