A significant security alert occurred close to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, May 8, hours prior to a Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings. An Indian drone is reportedly said to have crashed into a store in the adjacent Food Street region which caused the damage to the property and injured few. According to Pakistani news sources, the drone struck a tree and crashed into the shop, shattering windows and injuring couple of civilians, who were hospitalized. The incident caused panic in the region, particularly with the PSL match at the stadium on the same day. Gen. Ahmed Sharif has assured that several Indian drones were shot down across various regions of Pakistan. The cities where this was done include Lahore, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Chakwal, Attock, Rawalpindi, Chhor, and Mianwali. Security forces rushed to the site of the crash, sealed off the area, and gathered wreckage for examination. The DG ISPR further stated that there were also injuries to personnel of the Pakistan Army in Lahore and one civilian was killed in Sindh province as a result of drone strikes. He also stated that extensive damage was caused to Indian troops along the Line of Control (LoC). Due to this, security has been beefed up in the affected areas. However, the government of India has debunked the claims made by Pakistan. After the drone crash close to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and damage to the complex, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) convened an emergency meeting. On considering the situation, the PCB resolved to shift all the remaining PSL 2025 matches from Rawalpindi to Karachi. The Karachi Kings vs. Peshawar Zalmi match, originally scheduled to be held on May 8 in Rawalpindi, has also been relocated to Karachi. The move was made to guarantee players', staffs', and fans' safety following the surprise drone attack close to the stadium. The fate of the tournament will now be decided by the way the security situation develops in the next few days. For the meantime, all PSL 2025 matches will be hosted in Karachi in strict security.
