On the Day 1 of 2nd Test between New Zealand and England at Basin Reserve, Wellington, the hosts won the toss and decided to bowl first. England kept losing wickets at regular interval, one of which was of the England's batting Stalwart, Joe Root. A superb catch by Daryl Mitchell shortened the innings of Root for 3 runs. Nathan Smith bowled a back of the length delivery which was moving away from the batter. Root tried to guide it towards the third man, but due a thick out-side edge, the ball went towards the area between 1st and 2nd slip. Mitchell, who was standing at the first slip, grabbed an absolute screamer by diving to his right. He flew towards the ball and had it in the end of his palm close to his wrists. This was the first wicket for Nathan Smith in this innings, he ended up taking 3 more to end the innings with figures of 4 wickets conceding 86 runs.
