Daniel Sams, while playing for Sydney Thunder against the Adelaide Strikers, did the unthinkable to clinch a victory in their match of the season. Sams pulled off a victory from the jaws of defeat by scoring 31 runs in the last second over of the chase when the Thunder required 34 runs off 12 balls with only three wickets in hand. Llyod Pope, who was on the receiving end, was smashed by Sams for two sixes towards the long-on region on the first two deliveries. Pope then bowled a wide to save himself from being hit for three consecutive sixes. However, Sams crunched the third delivery for a four over the exra-cover. The next ball, fourth of the over, was hammered for a huge six over the backward square-leg. It was then followed by two successive fours to end the over. Sams' masterclass reduced the target from 34 off 12 to 3 off 6 in the matter of just six deliveries and his brilliance of 42 off 18 helped his side to get two points in the first game itself. Jamie Overton's 45, Weatherald's 40 and 31 by Bazley took the Strikers to a massive total of 182. Sam Konstas, in response to chase, opened the innings and played a blistering knock of 56 off 27. However, their innings collapsed, and they were reduced to 149-7 from 69-2. Strikers almost had the victory in their hands, but Daniel Sams had some other plans as he hammered 31 off 6 to guide his side to the victory in the nail-biting encounter.
