There was a moment of actual drama on Day 2, in the opening session of the 1st Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Galle, when a huge mix-up by Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das nearly spelled disaster for Bangladesh. All this took place in the fifth delivery of the 103rd over when Tharindu Ratnayake delivered a flighted ball outside off stump. Mushfiqur guided it lightly past slip and began to run. Litton also reacted. But then, Mushfiqur had a change of mind and ran back to the striker's end. This left Litton Das totally stranded in the middle of the pitch. To make the scenario even worse, both the batters were at the striker's end at the same time. However, the fielding team made huge blunder. Kusal Mendis collected the throw but dislodged the bails at the striker's end, but Rahim was already well inside the crease. Even then, he had an opportunity to correct the error. Mendis fumbled but managed to break the stumps at the striker's end, by which time Litton somehow made it back with a full sprint. It was a massive opportunity missed by Sri Lanka and a welcome relief for Bangladesh. The failure of the fielders to communicate saved the wicket of Litton, and the visitors escaped narrowly from what could have been a turning point. He stitched a partnership of 149 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim and the duo took Bangladesh to 458. Rahim was the top scorer for the side with 163 runs, while skipper Shanto also scored 148 runs. Bangladesh eventually managed to post 495 runs in their first innings, but the total did not seem to be as huge as their expectation as Sri Lanka bounced back with the bat, scoring 368-4 at the end of Day 3. The Lankan opener, Pathum Nissanka stole the show with 187 runs off 256.
