Ben Duckett produced one of the most audacious shots of the match on Day 5 of the opening Test between England and India at Headingley, Leeds. When faced with Ravindra Jadeja, Duckett produced a breath-taking switch-hit for six that left everyone bewildered. The ball was sliding into leg-stump, and though it was quite full, Duckett turned back, bent low, and timed the shot to perfection. The ball flew from his bat and cleared the sweeper cover fence, his back knee grazing almost the ground in making contact. Watch the clip here: Take a bow. What an innings. It was their second-largest winning chase in Test cricket. Ben Duckett was the prime mover with a brilliant 149, while he and Zak Crawley (65) added 188 runs together. Then Joe Root (53*) and debutant Jamie Smith (44*) escorted England home with an unbroken 71-run partnership. That very same shot cut short his innings, as he gave a catch to Shubman Gill at short third. India displayed temporary indications of a recovery with Prasidh Krishna sending Crawley and Pope back, then Shardul Thakur knocking over Duckett and Brook on successive deliveries. Root remained unshakeable, though, and Smith provided the finishing touches in assurance, two of which came off Jadeja in sixes. The foundation for the victory was established at an early hour in the day as England's opening pair managed to weather the pressure and counterattack after the first drinks break. Duckett's incisive strokeplay and Crawley's dominance set India back on their heels in what proved to be a challenging day for their bowlers.
