England opener Ben Duckett stunned everyone with a rare shot against Indian bowler Akash Deep in the fifth Test match at Kennington Oval, London. England is in the hunt to surpass India's first innings total of 224, where comeback player Karun Nair had played a gritty 57, registering the second highest score in his Test career. India had begun Day 2 on 204/6, but they lost wickets in a hurry. Karun Nair and Washington Sundar got out within the first 20 minutes of the day. After these two fell, the rest of the Indian top order collapsed with little resistance. India was bowled out for 224. England's Gus Atkinson was the pick of the bowlers with the ball, taking 5 wickets for only 33 runs. Josh Tongue assisted well, grabbing 3 wickets. On the last delivery of the over, Akash delivered short-pitch delivery. Duckett hit a rare reverse ramp shot and dispatched the ball over the slip cordon for six. The unexpected shot put Akash on the backfoot and he conceded 12 runs in his subsequent over. The duo has formed four 150+ run partnerships in Tests since December 2022, the most by any other opening pair. Against India, they are just the third pair to have achieved multiple 150+ run partnerships in a single series. Their 5.18 rate of scoring in the fourth Test was the second highest for a century stand against India. England look solid in their response as at the time of writing, they are at 92/1 after 12.4.
