Babar Azam continued his struggle in Test cricket on Day 1 of the 1st Test between Pakistan and England in Multan, held on October 7, Monday. Babar again failed to reach fifty as he extended his dry run to 16 Test innings without a half-century. Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Shan Masood scored a century along with opener Abdullah Shafique on what seemed like a batting paradise as Babar could not reap the advantage. Shan Masood was dismissed by Jack Leach, who got his reward for the toil he put in; Babar came to the crease 151 off the 63rd over. He was expected to make runs by most as the pitch flat offered little for the bowlers. Babar left at 30, to Chris Woakes. Woakes got him caught off an outside edge the ball before, then had him given as an inside edge was punched straight to Nasser Hussain at leg slip from the second-last over of the day. At the close of play, Pakistan were 328/4. Still largely due to a solid 253-run partnership between Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique, it was also Pakistan's highest Test partnership in Multan. Shan Masood, who was under pressure, answered his critics with a determined hundred, whilst Shafique supported him well by playing fluently, though the partnership didn't last long as both Masood and Shafique got out inside 16 balls-Atkinson getting rid of Masood and Leach getting rid of Shafique.
