Ayush Mhatre was born just one year prior to the commencement of the first Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2008. While IPL now completes its 18th year, Mhatre still has two months left of his childhood. Yet, even prior to this, Mhatre made history as the youngest-ever player to score a fifty for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is now ranked third in the all-time IPL list. šØ 17 YEAR OLD AYUSH MHATRE REGISTERS HIS MAIDEN IPL FIFTY. šØ #RCBvsCSK #AYUSH #ayushmhatre #TATAIPL #IPL pic.twitter.com/vZh4vwgK7S — AJAY_KR (@akr_up_85) May 3, 2025 Youngest to score fifty or more runs in IPL: 14 years, 32 days – Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals) 17 years, 175 days – Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals) 17 years, 291 days – Ayush Mhatre (Chennai Super Kings) 18 years, 169 days – Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals) 18 years, 177 days – Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Capitals) If it were not for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Mhatre's achievement would have made headlines. Suryavanshi, at 14 years, is the youngest player ever to score a fifty-plus score in both IPL and T20 history. Both players have equally matched performance levels: Suryavanshi scored 30 runs against Ishant Sharma in an over, while Mhatre scored 26 runs against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. TAKE A BOW, AYUSH MHATRE. š‍āļø- 94 (48) with 9 fours and 5 sixes. Missed out on a very well deserved hundred here, he set the stage for CSK in the big run chase. Well done, Ayush! š#RCBvsCSK #AYUSH #ayushmhatre #TATAIPL2025 #TATAIPL #IPL pic.twitter.com/PIM2mFaKmp — AJAY_KR (@akr_up_85) May 3, 2025 Mhatre's fifty was not scored in just 17 balls as in the case of Suryavanshi; rather, he managed to attain the credit in 25 balls. This half-century from Mhatre was significant since CSK was chasing the target of 214 runs for its third win in IPL 2025. To do this at just 17 makes it even more awesome. While Mhatre was likely to be the second youngest to hit an IPL and T20 century, he missed by just six runs and would have had a fantastic IPL 2025 season, but unfortunately for the 17-year-old, that was not to be. AYUSH MHATRE DISMISSED FOR 94 RUNS...!!!- He deserves the Hundred but missed out by just 6 runs. pic.twitter.com/PkkQyXiCtE — MS Dhoni FC - Chennai Super Kings (@msdhoni7781) May 3, 2025 This IPL 2025 season is something that can be celebrated as the festival of young talent. It is also going to witness the last moments of legends like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma making way for the young guns like Mhatre and Suryavanshi, who are just above a score of 20 years.
