Gujarat and Karnataka faced off in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Thursday, December 5. The match saw a lot of runs being scored from both sides. Gujarat, who was asked to bat first, got off to a phenomenal start as their openers Aarya Desai scored 73 in 40 balls and Urvil Patel scored 33 in just 14 deliveries. Aarya batted with a strike rate of more than 180 whereas Urvil’s strike rate was more than 230. Later, Gujarat skipper, Axar Patel, came to bat when Gujarat was 150/2. He went all guns blazing from the first ball and scored an unbeaten 56 (20), which featured six sixes and just two fours. Axar Patel targeted Karnataka’s right-arm bowler Vidyadhar Patel for the final over, he whacked him to back-to-back boundaries and sixes and collected 25 runs from it including a wide. He scored an 18-ball half-century as well. This match-winning performance from the skipper propelled the Gujarat team to register a comfortable 48-run victory in the match as Karnataka were bowled out for 203 runs. Ravi Bishnoi, the star spinner, also clinched three scalps to his name and also took a brilliant diving catch.
