Anshul Kamboj, a fast bowler from Haryana, created history on Thursday by becoming only the third cricketer in the history of Ranji Trophy to take all ten wickets in an innings. He achieved this feat in the fifth round of the 2024-25 season against Kerala at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Stadium in Lahli. Kamboj, who needed two wickets to seal the record at the start of the day, finished with bowling figures that are improbable-great-of 30.1-9-49-10, which makes him the holder of the best bowling performance by a Haryana bowler in Ranji Trophy history. Previously, the best bowling in Ranji Trophy for Haryana was by Joginder Sharma against Vidarbha in the 2004-05 season with 8 wickets for 24 runs. Kamboj's feat puts him in a very select group of cricketers who had taken all ten wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy. He is only the third Ranji Trophy player to take all ten wickets in an innings, after Bengal's Premangsu Chatterjee from 1956-57, and Rajasthan's Pradeep Sunderam in 1985-86. Kamboj is also the sixth Indian cricketer to achieve this feat in first-class cricket. The others include legendary bowlers Subhash Gupte, Anil Kumble, and Odisha's Debasis Mohanty. Kumble, who took a ten-wicket haul against Pakistan in 1999, is just one of three bowlers to have done so in international cricket, other than Englishman Jim Laker and New Zealand's Ajaz Patel. It was only when he was 14 that he started taking the game seriously, and in almost nine years, he has risen to play for the Haryana state team and got into the IPL. Missed the bus for India Under-19, Kamboj's journey has been nothing short of being impressive. This is just the latest in a string of successful performances for Kamboj. He started the year on a stellar note with Vijay Hazare Trophy, wherein he was the third-highest wicket-taker in Haryana's maiden title win. His 10 games threw up 17 wickets, and a best of 4 for 30 in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu. The Duleep Trophy saw Kamboj impress as well, where he took his best first-class figures of 8 for 69 against India B while playing for India C. He did all the same in the T20 Asia Cup as he picked up 3 for 33 runs in a match-winning performance against Pakistan Shaheens. In IPL 2024, Kamboj received his first IPL contract with Mumbai Indians where he played only three matches. Although Kamboj hasn't been retained by the team for 2025 season, his recent performances make him one of the worth-watching uncapped players in the ongoing auction season.
