A controversy erupted over an on-field umpire's decision in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Maharashtra and Services. On Day 2, while Maharashtra was still struggling at 164-6, skipper Ankit Bawne fell in a questionable manner that shocked the players as much as it upset the fans. The incident took place in the 50th over, when bowler Amit Shukla of Services delivered the first ball to Ankit Bawne. Bawne tried steer the ball on the off side that cut the ball close to second slip, where Shubham Rohilla kept open arms to catch it, but the ball bounced before he caught it. However, he grabbed the ball with confidence and appealed for a wicket. The ball had contacted the ground before the catch and it was clearly visible while it was replayed on the big screen still, the on-field umpire still declared Bawne out. This decision forced Bawne to walk off after a crucial score of 73 runs. The side, which lost the toss and was asked to bat, didn't exactly make things go according to plan, as it could only manage 161. Even the India A skipper couldn't do much; he managed just 4 runs off 6 balls before being dismissed. The good show for India A has been primarily done by Dhruv Jurel, who batted really well to score 80. Australia A also makes steady progress; now they are at 53-2 by the end of Day 1 with India A leading them by 108 runs at the end of the first day.
