Besides that, they had already won an ODI World Cup. That would make New Zealand the first team from that country to win a T20 World Cup and something which has eluded the men's team so far. South Africa were yet to win the T20 title as they lost the 2023 title final for the first time to Australia. With South Africa winning the toss and choosing to bowl, New Zealand posted the total of 158/5, where Kerr contributed 43 runs, Brooke Halliday 38 runs, and Suzie Bates 32 runs. Nonkululeko Mlaba of South Africa took 2 wickets for 31 runs. In reply, South Africa were off to a brisk start with 51/1 in just over six overs. Regular wickets, however, slowed them down so that they managed only 126/9. Laura Wolvaardt was the top scorer with 33 runs and Kerr shone with the ball, picking 3 wickets for 24 runs. Kerr was declared the match player of the tournament with 15 wickets in the tournament. The New Zealand's way to the final was outstanding more so after having experienced losing 10 games in a row before the commencement of the tournament. They lost only one game during the group stage and reached the final for the first time since 14 years ago.
