Two of cricket’s oldest rivals are facing each other in the fourth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the recently renovated Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. England have been out of form in their last few ODIs, while Australia have been troubled by the injuries of key players. These factors made the match seem unlikely to be a nail-biter, but Alex Carey proved otherwise. Alex Carey, who usually keeps the wicket for Australia, was asked to field at mid-on as Josh Inglis was handed the gloves. On the fourth ball of the second over, Ben Dwarshuis bowled a full delivery on the leg stump, and English opener Phil Salt shuffled across to play it towards wide mid-on. Salt timed it well, and the ball seemed destined for the boundary, but Carey had other plans. Carey, positioned at mid-on, moved swiftly to his right and made a perfectly timed dive to grab the ball with his right hand. Despite hitting on the ground, the ball remained in his hands, and this forced Phil Salt to walk back to pavilion for 10 runs. Watch the video here: WHAT. A. However, they lost Phil Salt in second over, followed by Jamie Smith's wicket in the sixth over. Jamie was promoted to No. 3, replacing the English stalwart, Joe Root. Ben Dwarshuis dismissed both English batters, and Joe Root was set to enter the middle after Jamie's dismissal. He, along with Ben Duckett, stitched the innings together, and the duo added crucial runs. At the time of writing, England is at 73/2 after 10 overs. If this partnership continues, they could post a huge total, as they have quality power-hitters down the order.
