The ball landed on a good length outside off and nipped back sharply. Brook, who was anticipating that it would go straight, prodded forward cautiously. But the ball curved in viciously, slipping past the inside edge and hitting the off-stump. Brook was well beaten by the movement, playing outside the line and leaving a gap between bat and pad. The off-stump flew out of the ground, and the crowd went wild. It was a typical inswinger false in line, turning sharply off the pitch, and too good even for a well-set batter like Brook.
