India's fast bowler Akash Deep was aggressive on the second day of the third test against New Zealand in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as he took Tom Latham's wicket in the second session. As he opened the attack with the new ball for the second innings of New Zealand, Akash struck Tom Latham in front of the stumps on the fourth ball of his over. The decision, however was overturned by the third umpire, as Latham had an inside edge onto his pads. But Akash came back strongly on the next ball, bowling a perfect delivery that swung in sharply from around the wicket, going past Latham's defense to hit the stumps. Pumped up with excitement, Akash celebrated by punching the air and gave a fierce send-off to the New Zealand captain. Pant returned to his attacking game of cricket, which caused a lot of trouble for New Zealand's spinners to change their lines and length. He got lucky getting dropped by Matt Henry, but this time smashed the fastest half-century by an Indian, reaching it in just 36 balls for India against New Zealand. Gill completed his seventh half-century with 96 runs added for the fifth wicket. Pant scored 60 off 59 balls, but it came too quickly before being lbw to Ish Sodhi, whereas Gill went on to score well-played 90 off 103 balls and seven fours and a six. New Zealand's Ajaz Patel was once again the star of Wankhede Stadium as he took his second five-wicket haul in two games at the venue. He took 5/103 in 21.4 overs and ensured that India did not gain a huge first innings lead.
