Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was back in the spotlight during India A's critical tri-series encounter against Afghanistan A. This time around though, the focus was not only on his batting but also on Afghanistan paceman Faridoon Dawoodzai's reaction post his dismissal. The 15-year-old opener was under pressure at the start of the game following a few below-par scores in the tournament. Needed for a big knock with India A requiring a win to stay in contention for a spot in the final Sooryavanshi could not exactly deliver. He chipped in with 38 off 28 balls but at no point did he seem to be in complete control at the crease. Afghan bowlers tested him with short-pitched stuff regularly. Faridoon Dawoodzai's Plan Works Perfectly From the word go Afghanistan paceman Faridoon Dawoodzai seemed to be in no mood to spare the young batter. In the third over Sooryavanshi nearly chipped it straight to the pacer but it turned out to be a very close caught and bowled attempt as umpires rightly ruled it not out after a review. In the ensuing overs, the teenager was once again let off when a skier off Dawoodzai was dropped in the slips. However the Afghanistan paceman continued to pepper the youngster with pace and bounce. It was finally in the ninth over that he trapped Sooryavanshi as the batter attempted a pull shot off a short delivery but ended up skewing it high in the air to a fielder at cover. What happened next immediately attracted everybody's attention. Dawoodzai immediately brought a finger to his lips signifying silence. The Rajasthan Royals opener who burst onto the scene after a stellar IPL 2026 campaign earned call-ups to both India A and the senior squad for the upcoming tours to Ireland and England. However, he is finding it difficult to convert his starts into substantial scores in Sri Lanka. He started his tournament with 14 runs against Sri Lanka A before smashing a quickfire 44 against Afghanistan A and then followed it up with a stroke-filled 21 against Sri Lanka A in a Super Over thriller. He chipped in with another 38 against Afghanistan A on Tuesday but yet again failed to reach a half-century. In four games, the teenager has aggregated 117 runs at an average of 29.25. The strike rate (153.95) continues to be excellent though but lack of big scores remains a worry. Adding to the pressure Sooryavanshi also got involved in an ugly verbal altercation with Sri Lankan players following India A's Super Over loss and now every move of the young batter has come under intense scrutiny throughout the tournament. However with bigger challenges awaiting him in international cricket Sooryavanshi will be looking to learn from these difficult times and stage a comeback to the form that made him one of the most exciting young talents in the country.
