On day 2 of the first Test between Pakistan and England in Multan, Pakistan struck early as Naseem Shah helped a brilliant one-handed catch by Aamer Jamal get rid of Ollie Pope with this hard length delivery that just left him slightly back. On the back foot, Pope tried to pull it to mid-wicket but Jamal dived to his right and it took a firm hand to his right, throwing England captain back into the hut for two-ball duck. Shan Masood scored 151 and Abdullah Shafique 102. Salman Agha scored his fourth first-class century - his third successive ton and scored 104 not out. It was child's play also for Saud Shakeel, who added 82. In the reply, Jack Leach did most of the damage to Pakistan, taking 3-160. Salman Agha was very quick and frustrating to the England bowlers, making a quick half-century. At tea, Agha was on 79 without losing, with Shaheen Shah Afridi on 13. He got a close shave off a delivery from Jack Leach and Chris Woakes took the catch at the boundary line, but third umpire gave it as a six as Woakes' foot touched the rope. The 57-run stand between Saud Shakeel and Salman for the Pakistan team helped Pakistan pull through from losing some wickets quickly. Shakeel fell to Shoaib Bashir, caught by Joe Root when on 82. Brydon Carse had figures of 2-74 on his debut, as he dismissed Aamer Jamal for seven and knocked over Naseem Shah earlier in the day. Gus Atkinson took 2-99, while Jack Leach went on to finish with 2-136. Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir also picked up one as England looked to keep the total of Pakistan low. The day ended with England at 96 at the loss of 1 wicket. Zak Crawley (64*) and Joe Root (32*) will take the field on Day 3 and will try to score some quick runs in order to cover the lead of 460 runs and ultimately avoid the follow-on in the 1st Test.
