India have had a pretty nasty blow ahead of the third and final ODI vs England, mainly because all rounder Washington Sundar is out with a hamstring issue. The BCCI said this on Saturday, and it named Harsh Dubey as his replacement for the Sunday match at Lord’s Cricket Ground, July 19. Sundar picked up the problem during the second ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. While batting he looked a bit uncomfortable, and in the middle of the innings he was seen getting treatment on his right thigh. After that, he managed to walk off the field in pain, right after he got his wicket, so yeah not a good moment. This injury is coming at a really crucial time, with India and England both having won one match apiece in the series so far. BCCI Confirms Sundar’s Injury The BCCI put out a clear statement that Sundar is ruled out of the remaining part of the series due to a right hamstring injury. BCCI said: “He will undergo scans and seek a specialist opinion for further management of his injury.” In the second ODI, Sundar could only make two runs off five balls before he got dismissed. But earlier in the tour, he played a big role in India’s win at Birmingham, where he made an unbeaten half century during the chase. So his absence is a major hit for India, because he’s been giving them value with both bat and ball in the ODI setup. Sitanshu Kotak Shares Injury Update After India’s defeat in Cardiff, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak talked more about what happened to Sundar in the post match press conference. Kotak said that the injury came up when Sundar had completed his first run during the innings. He also admitted that Washington’s condition didn’t look right at all. Kotak said: “Washington's injury, which he had when he ran his first run to mid-off. His hamstring, I think, looks like a bad injury, and the next ball he got out.” Now the Indian team management has brought in Harsh Dubey to add depth to the squad before the series decider at Lord’s. India have kept leaning toward more all-rounders in the playing XI, so Kuldeep has been sitting out all through the series. Ravichandran Ashwin, the former India spinner, recently mentioned Kuldeep’s situation and said the wrist spinner should get more chances. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’: “Come the ODI World Cup in South Africa, you will need Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. Both Axar and Washington got fifties and saw us home in the first ODI against England. But I think there will be room for only one of the two players in the future. I would love to see Kuldeep handed better treatment because he is a match-winner.” With the series tied at 1-1, India will now be looking at Harsh Dubey to deliver something if he gets a go at Lord’s, while at the same time waiting on fresh information about Sundar’s recovery. India's updated squad for the third ODI Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav, Harsh Dubey
