Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia is normally looked upon as a happy man, always smiling. And last night, June 1, after Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets, to reach the final, he was caught off-guard in the team hotel celebration. The players were cutting celebration cakes, and the PBKS captain, Shreyas Iyer was present there. Nes Wadiya, meanwhile, cut the cake, and gave the first piece to Iyer. He then joyfully wrapped Iyer in his arms and placed a kiss on Iyer's cheeks. Initially nonchalant, Iyer slowly turned back but mindfully picked up a tissue and wiped off his face. After hitting the winning shot to MI's Ashwini, he did nothing. Marcus Stoinis, on the non-striker's end, came and hugged him. That's all. All Shreyas did was walk off the pitch, making sure to throw away the chewing gum on the field—visibly cold, but calm at the same time. Shreyas spoke about the same technique he did before the Champions Trophy outing—breathing. He said, "I love such big occasions and I always say to myself and my colleagues that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are and you'll get the best results. Today I was focusing a lot on my breathing rather than sweating out a lot out there." Speaking about Iyer, this is his third time, leading a team to the finals. However, it is the third time for the third team he has played for. Earlier in 2020, he did it for Delhi Capitals, and then in 2024, he won it for Kolkata Knight Riders. And now, after 11 years, he led Punjab Kings to the finals! In 2025, he has already amassed 603 runs with an average ticking over 54. Last night, he stood unbeaten at 87, leading the chase for Punjab. Just one match left for him to win and seal the second consecutive win as a captain!
