The Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes that India lacked at least 30 runs while batting and a lower-order collapse cost them the match against Australia on October 12 match of 2025 Women's ODI World Cup. India posted a mammoth 330 runs on the board, courtesy to Pratika Rawal's 75 off 96 balls and Smriti Mandhana's 80 off 66 balls. There were decent contributions from the middle order, but the lower order collapsed within a blink. Harmanpreet targets the lower order contribution, saying it is an age-old problem. Coming to the post-match presentation, she said, "The way we started, we could have added 30-40 more runs. We missed runs in the last six overs and that cost us. It was a good batting wicket, but not batting well in the end made the difference.” Praising the 155-run partnership of Pratika and Smriti, Harmanpreet added, "Openers have been outstanding, because of them we’ve been scoring 300-plus. But the last five overs hurt us. In the last three games, we haven’t finished well in the middle and death overs. These things happen — it’s important how we come back.” Read also: Watch: Jemimah Rodrigues Takes a Screamer to Dismiss Beth Mooney India has been trying a lot to strengthen their batting. Thus, they had added five bowling options to the team. Even though Harman seems to have no such problem with the bowling but has decided to discuss the batting issue. She said, “We’ll sit and discuss. This combination has given us success, and two bad games are not going to change that." Shree Charani has been the pick bowler from the Indian side. She took three wickets, conceding 41 runs. She picked the crucial wickets of Alyssa Healy (142) and Phoebe Litchfield (40), followed by the wicket of Annabel Sutherland. Praising her efforts, the Indian skipper said, “She has been outstanding — even against top batters like Healy, she kept things tight." Notably, India lost the match by 3 wickets, their second consecutive defeat in the game. Currently, India is in the third position with 4 points from four matches. Australia tops the list with 7 points, the one-off point coming from a washed-out match against Sri Lanka. England is sitting in second place with 6 points and no loss so far.
