The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are now gearing up for the upcoming IPL 2025 clash with the Mumbai Indians. Much would depend on the outcome as a win would lift RCB to the top on this score, while another loss would pile on the pressure onto MI. In the 33 overall contests played so far, Mumbai leads with 19 wins, while Bengaluru has secured 14 wins. Both have won the last two encounters, but RCB has a small upper hand in the last five games- MI is beaten in 2024, when it was won by 7 wickets, and again in 2023 by 6 wickets. RCB's major worry is the Wankhede stadium, where it has last emerged victorious in 2015 when Kohli hit 82 and AB blazed his way to an unbeaten 133 to take RCB to 235/1 and a 39-run win. To date, RCB has lost all six engagements against MI at the Wankhede; having succumbed to a six-wicket loss in 2016, followed by a five-wicket loss in 2017, along with a 46-run deficit in 2018, and went on to be defeated by five wickets (2019), six wickets (2023), and seven wickets (2024). Especially with Jasprit Bumrah being back into the MI fold, breaking this streak will be a challenge. The RCB side, buoyed by the victory against the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk—a long-standing hoodoo, as the win there had been elusive since 2017 will look to come full of confidence despite their loss against the Gujarat Titans at home. Virat Kohli, the all-time highest run-getter in IPL history, is in phenomenal touch and hungry to show his class at Wankhede, the ground that suits him. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians would be keen to bounce back. They lost a high-scoring thriller to the Lucknow Super Giants, despite the all-round performance from Hardik Pandya. For Indian cricketing greats and for Kohli as well this ground holds much significance. India lifted the World Cup here in 2011, and in that final, a young Kohli played an important role. Now, 14 years and 5 days later, he returns not a prodigy anymore, but as senior legend trying to inspire once again.
