Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag took a sly dig at the Sunrisers Hyderabad, saying it is much like Punjab Kings in past seasons when things just didn't click for the team. After the third consecutive loss of the season, Sehwag clearly hit out at the side for its performance-and for disappointing its people. On April 3 at Eden Gardens, Hyderabad faced their most recent bouts of losses in the season: an 80-run thrashing at the hands of the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 15. SRH had to chase down a target of 201 but got bowled out for a mere 120. Only 33 runs scored off 21 balls by SRH's highest scorer this season; a far cry from last season's far superior blow-offs. There is no flair whatsoever this season. The current SRH outfit doesn't even resemble the one that impressed in IPL 2024. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have already had two major fumbles: they could not chase 167 against Delhi Capitals and could not defend 190 against Lucknow Super Giants. This was long after setting an unthinkable 286 against Rajasthan Royals at home that seems worlds away. In reacting to SRH's collapse against KKR, Sehwag was very critical of the team's continued errors while commenting that the players are "chopping their own feet with an axe." He went on to point out how they couldn't defend a total of 190, then couldn't chase 167 successfully, and have now collapsed for just 120 despite there not being any major threat from the opposing bowlers. Hyderabad lost their last three games; they are hitting their feet. What to say, I have no words. They allowed KKR to make 200 by bowling first. We saw that there was no turn, nor was there any help from the wicket. Yeah, it was slow, and they were bowling slow balls, but if you stay on the crease for a while, the batters get adjusted. I think Hyderabad disappointed the fans because you have so much batting, but no one will make a run; you were bowled out for 120.” Sehwag slammed their underwhelming batting order and went on to say how the expectation was created after last season. Fans came to watch the fireworks, especially in Kolkata, but ended up seeing a rather disappointing show from SRH. According to him, the team has done damage to its reputation this season with such flat performances. He added: “The poor public came to watch some fireworks, which became a reputation of Hyderabad. Even if they are KKR fans, they would have thought it would be fun to watch SRH; they would get entertainment, but they left everyone disappointed. So, they have completely finished their image.”
