The Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced retirement from international cricket in the midway of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. After that, the former Indian captain Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt post on his X account, remembering 14 years of togetherness on the cricket field. On his X account, he wrote, "I’ve played with you for 14 years and when you told me today you’re retiring, it made me a bit emotional and the flashbacks of all those years playing together came to me. I’ve enjoyed every bit of the journey with you ash, your skill and match winning contributions to Indian cricket are second to none and you will always and always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket. Later, Ashwin came and declared, "This will be my last day as an international cricketer... it is an emotional moment and I won't be taking any questions." "I had a lot of fun with this team. Would like to thank the BCCI, players and coaches I played with. Rohit, Virat (Kohli), Ajinkya (Rahane) and (Cheteshwar) Pujara... they took those catches. We were actually the last bunch of OGs in that dressing." While leaving, the captain got up and gave a warm goodbye hug to Ashwin. However, Rohit Sharma revealed that he was aware of Ashwin's retirement. Despite repeated requests to stay back till the Melbourne Test, Ashwin made it sure that he wouldn't hang around if he was no longer needed. Rohit clarified, "I heard about Ashwin's retirement when I came to Perth. He understands what the team is thinking, the combinations team is thinking. I convinced him to stay for the pink-ball Test." Rohit Sharma has also informed that Ashwin will leave Australia on December 19.
