The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction ended on November 25 which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. All ten teams went into a bidding war during the mega auction to finalize their best possible squad for the upcoming edition of IPL. Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) went into the mega auction with the second auction purse of INR 83 crore. RCB’s picks during the auction were sort of mixed editions of experienced and some newer editions as well. But they didn’t pick any valuable addition who can be proven worthy captaincy material for their team. It is worth noting that the franchise hasn’t cleared anything in the official manner but speculation around this news is getting at a rapid pace. Faf du Plessis, who captained the side in the last three editions of the tournament was released ahead of the mega auction and RCB didn’t even try to pick him during the mega auction event. Considering the age of the former South African captain, it feels like they made a tough but pre-planned decision to let go of their former skipper. A report from the Times of India (TOI) has stated that Virat Kohli is all set to lead the RCB for IPL 2025. The report further mentioned that the franchise majorly focused on improving their team strength during the mega auction. Going into the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB retained only three players from their squad including Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. If talking about Virat Kohli’s captaincy in IPL then Kohli captained RCB in 143 IPL matches where he led his team to victories in 66 matches. He helped his team to reach the final of the 2016 IPL edition as well but unfortunately, SRH emerged as the title winner that year.
