Indian star batsman, Virat Kohli found himself in one of the most intense and heated matches of the year. Surprisingly, it wasn't during the T20 World Cup final against Pakistan or South Africa but this years' IPL against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chinnaswamy Stadium, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were engaged in their struggle for survival. CSK needed to win this one to stay in the tournament and the match boiled down to the final over with 17 runs needed with MS Dhoni at the crease. Yash Dayal had the onus of bowling the final over. The first ball, a full toss, was slogged for six by none other than cricket's finest finisher, MS Dhoni. It brought back thoughts of that horrid Ahmedabad night for Dayal. However, he quickly regained his composure as he got Dhoni out with a slower delivery on the very next ball, and then defended 10 runs in the last two balls. CSK was knocked out of the tournament. Yash Dayal has played only two matches since then, the Eliminator against RR and the first-round encounter of the Duleep Trophy for India B. The day the Duleep Trophy match concluded, Dayal was over the moon as he got to know that he had been picked for India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, starting on September 19. Celebrating his first India call-up, Dayal couldn't resist talking about that evening in Bengaluru, where Virat Kohli's timely boost gave him a second chance. Dayal told News24 "When I got hit for the six and I was going back to my run-up, I was thinking 'why is it that I always get stuck in these situations? Every time the batter hits me for runs'. But when I re-accessed the situation, Virat bhaiya came and said 'You can take some time' and what to bowl to Mahi bhai. He was like 'try the slower ball because if you give him pace then you won't need to see where the ball has landed. It will always be a six'," "That's when I realised that I can't give him speed, or else I'll get smashed again. It [taking the pace off] was going to be my best option. I had confidence in my slower balls; I was controlling them well. I bowled it from the back of my hand, and it worked."
