India's batting struggles have come into focus in the recent Test series against New Zealand, especially with star batter Virat Kohli going through a lean patch. Over his last ten innings this year, Kohli has managed only one half-century, averaging a modest 27.22 with the bat. Virat Kohli's ongoing challenges with spin, especially left-arm spin, have continued to trouble him. Recently, he’s fallen victim to spinners on multiple occasions. In the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru, it was off-spinner Glenn Phillips who claimed his wicket during the second innings. In the first, Santner bowled him out cleanly, while in the second, he trapped him LBW. Kohl has been intensely practicing against left-arm spin ahead of the third Test in Mumbai, determined to break free from this uncharacteristic slump. Reports from The Indian Express indicate that Kohli was aggressively targeting the spinners during his practice sessions at the Wankhede. The upcoming game is crucial for India, especially after losing the series 2-0, marking their first home series defeat in 12 years. The last time they faced a whitewash at home was in 2000 against South Africa, and they’re eager to avoid repeating that scenario in the Mumbai Test. In a recent conversation with World Wide Sports, Australian legend Ian Chappell pointed out that the poor form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has been a significant concern for the team. This trend isn't promising as they head into an important Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour. As quoted by India Today, Ian Chappell said: “But then you've got Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are both ageing. And you get to that point where people start talking about it and maybe it starts to creep in the head a little bit 'Are we getting to that age where it all starts to go downhill?' They are both at that age." India is set to face New Zealand in the third Test, starting on November 1 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
