Star batter of India, Virat Kohli, handed one of his signed bats to Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan following a six-wicket victory of India in the second Test in Kanpur. The team, with this victory created an impenetrable wall in their home series, sweeping the series 2-0. This test may be Shakib's last overseas match. He has said that the Kanpur test could also be his last if the existing government in Bangladesh fails to make any security arrangement for his return to the country safely. When India had eventually won by seven wickets, Kohli walked over to Shakib and handed over his bat to him as a gesture of appreciation for his long service to the game. The two players posed together for a photo and, as Shakib was walking off, he started hitting a few shots mockingly. BCCI Issues Major Update Shakib is an accused in a murder case pending back in Bangladesh, related to the civil unrest that toppled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Shakib was once an elected member of parliament with Hasina's Awami League party. The present Bangladesh government and the cricket board have seemingly displayed no interest in holding a farewell match for Shakib as the cricket board president Farukh Ahmed said it wasn't their responsibility to handle security. If things do not pick up, then the Kanpur Test may well prove to be Shakib's 71st and perhaps last Test. The all-round Bangladesh star is likely to retire from all international cricket following the Champions Trophy next year. Bangladesh will miss him sorely after his retirement. Even with recent modest performances, he is still remembered for the fabulous display at the 2019 ODI World Cup where he scored 606 runs and took 11 wickets.
