Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) historic title celebration took a tragic turn on Wednesday, as a stampede during the much-anticipated victory parade in Bengaluru left multiple casualties. According to PTI, nearly two lakh fans had gathered near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As the situation slipped out of control, more than 45 fans were injured, and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later confirmed that 11 people lost their lives. Virat Kohli, who has been the face of RCB for over a decade and played a pivotal role in their 2025 title run, expressed his heartbreak over the incident. “At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted,” Kohli wrote on Instagram around 10:45 PM, reposting RCB’s official statement. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us. RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Virat Kohli (@virat.kohli) Karnataka CM confirms compensation, free treatment Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed a press conference hours after the incident and confirmed the scale of the tragedy. “A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium,” the CM said. What was supposed to be a landmark moment in RCB’s history ended on a somber note, with the franchise and its captain now mourning alongside the fans they had finally given a title to.
