Virat Kohli, a star Indian cricketer, has been named India's most valuable celebrity according to the first ever Fortune India-Interbrand ranking of India's Most Valuable Celebrities. His brand was valued at a massive 3,542 crore which was enough to put him above some of the biggest names from film, sports and entertainment. The Fortune India-Interbrand rankings measured the country's most powerful celebrity brands by going beyond salary and endorsements and looking into different aspects of their brand like their distinctiveness, engagement, trust, affinity, coherence and responsibility. Kohli's ranking underlines the continued huge popularity he has as he once again proved his significance not only on the field but also in the business world, building what has to be considered the biggest brand for any sportsperson in the country today through the course of his incredible career to date. Cricket Stars Make a Strong Impact Not only did Virat Kohli claim the top spot other Indian cricket legends dominated. Ex-India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was ranked 4th with batting legend Sachin Tendulkar close behind in 8th. The fact that three cricketers cracked the top 10 showed that the nation's passion for cricket and its heroes still remained. With Kohli coming out above all film stars, his place in the ranking was particularly remarkable with Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan in second with the global Priyanka Chopra Jonas in third place. Dhoni once again featured highly and proved that despite hanging up his boots on the international front the country still idolized him, and even with his recent performances Tendulkar continues to be seen as a hugely important name in Indian sports. Thus, commercial achievement was not the sole benchmark in calculating the value and brand equity of celebrities in question. Others in the top 10 included actor Ranveer Singh (5th), Akshay Kumar (6th), Amitabh Bachchan (7th), Alia Bhatt (9th) and Telugu actor Allu Arjun (10th). Among the other celebrated names featured were Indian women's cricket captain Smriti Mandhana, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, musicians Diljit Dosanjh and Arijit Singh, actor Vicky Kaushal, filmmaker Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone, Rashmika Mandanna, Kriti Sanon, and Nayanthara. Cricket and cinema continued to dominate as India’s most valuable celebrity brand generating industries, but the list also proved the enduring legacy and unmatched appeal of cricket in terms of providing the most prominent celebrity brands, led by the No 1 celebrity, Kohli, along with Dhoni and Tendulkar, making it the definitive leader in the top 10.
