Virat Kohli has climbed back to the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI batting rankings. The Indian batting superstar has overtaken teammate Rohit Sharma, who has slipped to third place. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has moved up to second after a strong run of form. Kohli Back at the Top After Two and a Half Years This is the first time since July 2021 that Kohli has become the top-ranked ODI batter. His latest climb comes on the back of a brilliant run with the bat. Kohli scored 135, 102, and 65* during the South Africa ODI series last year. He then followed it up with a superb 93 in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara, helping India secure a four-wicket win. Kohli’s strong phase began late last year in Australia, where he surprisingly registered two ducks in a row but bounced back with an unbeaten 74 in Sydney. Since then, he has looked in top control across formats. Daryl Mitchell has also improved his ranking, thanks to his 84 against India, which puts him ahead of Rohit Sharma. The difference between the top three batters is now just 10 rating points, showing how close the battle is.
