Shubman Gill earned great appreciation from Virat Kohli, the cricket superstar he replaced at India's No. 4 position in Test cricket. Gill scored his third century in four innings on Saturday during the current England tour. The new Test captain kept his form in the top gear in the second Test at Edgbaston. Gill had already scored a magnificent 269 in the first innings. In the second innings, he contributed an additional 161 runs to enable India to declare their innings at 427/6. This left England with a tremendous target of 608 runs. Gill's individual score of 430 runs in a single Test shattered Sunil Gavaskar's previous Indian record of 344 runs and ranks second highest in Test cricket history. Only Englishman Graham Gooch, with 456 runs, has ever scored more in a single Test match. Gill also became the second Test cricketer in the sport's 148-year history to make over 150 runs in a single match in each innings. The inaugural performer was Australia's Allan Border, who did it against Pakistan in 1980.
