Mohammad Shami, India's star pacer, will miss Bengal's first match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Delhi. Bengal has decided to rest him for this game, scheduled to take place on December 21 in Hyderabad. This has sparked a lot of doubts over Shami's possible comeback for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). Shami had undergone surgery on his ankle after the World Cup and has been in recovery mode since then. He was supposed to join Team India for the tour of Australia, but due to knee injuries, he missed out on several games this season. This kept him away from traveling with the Indian team for the BGT 2024-25 series. Indian captain Rohit Sharma had earlier said that though Shami had been playing cricket in India, he was still facing knee swelling. The NCA is also monitoring him closely, and the Indian team is yet to receive a green signal from the NCA officials regarding his return to international cricket. Nevertheless, in what might still come as some hope, there are some days remaining before the test in Melbourne so that he can recover from the issue before the start of the match. The reports are saying that Shami, who was the leading wicket-taker of the World Cup 2023, aiming to return to white-ball cricket, which would be the 2025 Champions Trophy and the Indian Premier League 2025.
