In the IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday, April 21, KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer became a victim again, departing for just 14 runs. The left-handed batsman mistimed a sweep off R Sai Kishore and was caught at midwicket by Washington Sundar. His dismissal put KKR in trouble at 84/3 in the 12th over during their chase. Bought for ₹23.75 crore in the November 2024 mega auction, the Madhya Pradesh batter has only managed one half-century in six innings this season. Chasing 199 for victory, KKR got early blows with Mohammed Siraj having Rahmanullah Gurbaz dismissed in the first over. Sunil Narine and captain Ajinkya Rahane added 43 runs for the second wicket before Narine was sent back for 17. Iyer and Rahane were set up for the rebuilding of the innings, but once Iyer was out in the 12th over, KKR still needed 115 runs off 51 balls for victory, a steep ask indeed. Earlier, Gujarat Titans’ top-order put on a solid show and posted a second-highest score of 198/3 in 20 overs. An opening partnership between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan built a face-saving, 114-run stand before Sudharsan fell at 52. Gill continued the assault with Jos Buttler, where they both hell-raise the KKR attack in Eden Gardens. Gill fell for 90 off 55 balls, while Buttler remained unbeaten on 41 off 23 as they steered GT ever closer to 200. As we go to press, KKR were reeling at 119/7 in the 17th over.
