Former England captain Michael Vaughan counters Darren Lehman's comments of not considering Joe Root as the all-time great as he is going through a century drought. Lehman has "rung below" the England star batter Root below Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson. Speaking to the SEN Mornings podcast, Vaughan digresses Lehman's comments, saying, “What a load of nonsense." Not only that, Vaughan is confident that Root, if he works on his fitness, will exceed the great Sachin Tendulkar's records. He rubbished Lehman's thought, saying that Root, even if he hasn't scored a ton in Australia, is not finished. He will tour Australia and score runs, given he sticks to his own style and not the Bazball style. Vaughan added, "I’ve got a sneaky feeling that might come back to haunt Darren next year. He might get a couple of hundreds next year, and the way that England are playing, particularly against this Kookaburra ball, I think it’s going to be a great contest.” Read Also: Mumbai Indians Captain Hardik Pandya Pays Emotional Tribute to Ishan Kishan Lehman's comment spurred controversies That Virat Kohli smacked a century at Perth has brought Root into the limelight. He has been struggling to score a century, to which Lehman told to ABC, “That’s the only thing stopping Joe Root. He’s a great player, but is he an all-time great? I don’t have him in that realm." Joe Root already has 12,777 Test runs – the fifth-most in cricket history—including 35 centuries at an average of 50.90. However, Root answered Lehman's criticisms, distinguishing his role from Lehman's. To the BBC, Root clarified that its his job to score runs and Lehman's job to opine and "talk on radio." Thus, its not a big deal for Root on what Lehman is spitting to the air After a blunt reply from Root, Lehman clarified his statement on his twitter account, saying, “Just to be clear as there are a lot of people who think , that I think Joe root is not a great . He is going to be a great, I know that and a wonderful ambassador for our game but needs and he will probably do this next ashes . Get a hundred in Aus and then no dispute.”
