The Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy describes how his present-day expenditure has been affected by his past financial struggles in his middle-class childhood. He had recently attended the famous sports presenter Gaurav Kapur's Breakfast with Champions, where the spinner said that, like middle-class Indian families, FIxed deposits were his only investments. He said, “I have had my struggles with money. The only investments I knew were FDs (fixed deposits). My typical middle-class mindset. I know how powerful money is. If something is very powerful, you will have to use it to its full potential." He further described how money not only changes one's life but also can better others' lives, too. The funny part is when he recalled how a three-lakh watch still haunts him despite him earning in crores now. Varun said, "What I feel is, rather than just changing my lifestyle with money, you can change someone else’s life; that is more powerful. I have this guilty feeling that if I spend so much, if I have a watch worth Rs 30 lakh or 40 lakh, that amount of money can change someone’s life for two or three generations." He added, “One watch I bought, which was around three lakhs or something, that itself just killed me from within. I know some people buy more expensive stuff. See, the guys I have grown up with, some of them are still doing all those things."
