Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been added to India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against England. He arrived in Nagpur on Tuesday and joined the team for practice sessions. Chakravarthy was impressive in the recent T20I series, where he claimed 14 wickets in five matches, including a five-wicket haul. His variations troubled England’s batters, making him a strong contender for the ODI side. India already had 4 spinners in the team: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar. With Varun coming in, the tally rose to 5. It seems like the selectors are trying to keep him in the mix before they finalize the team for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. While Chakravarthy is primarily known for his T20 success, his recent performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy suggest he can adapt to the 50-over format as well. Chakravarthy, on the other hand, is a traditional tailender, which might work against him when selectors decide the final squad. On Tuesday, Chakravarthy took part in fielding drills with the team before bowling in the nets to Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.
