India's Under-19s began their tour of England with a dominating six-wicket victory in Friday's first Youth ODI. Following a splendid bowling effort, talented young batters Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre gave India a solid platform while chasing 175. The Indian bowlers did a great job by bowling out England for only 174 runs in 42.2 overs. Spinners Kanishk Chouhan (3/20) and Mohamed Enaan (2/37) took crucial wickets, while seamers RS Ambrish (2/24) and Henil Patel (2/41) also played their part in keeping England under control. The only big resistance was offered by Rocky Flintoff, who made a gritty 56 off 90 balls. Suryavanshi and Mhatre Lead the Chase India's run chase began on a high note. Openers Suryavanshi and Mhatre hammered 70 runs from 7 overs. Suryavanshi, sporting the iconic No. 18 jersey, carried his form from IPL, where he had scored 252 runs for Rajasthan Royals, including a 35-ball hundred. In this game, he hammered 3 sixes in an over and took 48 from only 18 balls before being dismissed on the very next ball. He struck two consecutive boundaries before being out attempting a big shot. India lost both openers and then Maulyarajsinh Chavda (16) as well, but without any pressure on the scoreboard, vice-captain Abhigyan Kundu went about completing the chase in a serene fashion with an unbeaten 45 from 34 balls. India achieved the target in 24 overs and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. England, earlier, had begun positively with Isaac Mohammed scoring 42 of 28 balls. But once Enaan and Patel got rid of the main batters, England lost their wickets rapidly. They were reduced from 76/1 to 86/4, and Rocky Flintoff was left to fight alone. Chouhan subsequently picked three successive wickets and assisted in wrapping up England's innings in the 43rd over. Following the ODIs, the two teams will contest two Youth Test matches, beginning July 12.
