Vaibhav Suryavanshi is still just 14 and it shows. He is still a teen figuring the ropes despite hitting a blistering 35-ball century in the IPL. Do not expect him to have the maturity of his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team. While one can hardly say that Jaiswal is old at 23, he is certainly much older and more experienced than Suryavanshi. However, in the past few games, after the milestone hundred, Suryavanshi has bagged a 2-ball duck against the Mumbai Indians (MI) and scored just four runs in 2 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Vaibhav Suryavanshi in IPL 2025: 34 (20) vs LSG 16 (12) vs RCB 101 (38) vs GT 0 (2) vs MI 4 (2) vs KKR A pattern has clearly been set since quite the onset, from his debut in the IPL when he hit a six off Shardul Thakur. He is willing to attack almost every ball, which can be a good fit only for someone who would be considered close to being a batsman, say Sunil Narine, who is not there but for his bowling. Or perhaps for a big-hitting finisher, one who comes in later to finish the game: Tim David, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd. Someone like Priyansh Arya would bat at 2 runs per ball and still be averaging 35. But Suryavanshi is a mere 14; his cricket, body and mind are still in transition. He has still not made it; he is yet to grow physically, technically and mentally in his own right. That is the nature of school cricket; you give it a good whack and pray. And something like this is what Suryavanshi is-a schoolboy who is battling world-class bowlers in a most difficult T20 league. He doesn't need all sorts of criticisms-he needs encouragement. In a world that very quickly judges, the likes of him need not pressure but rather patience and praise.
