Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created a stir yet again with his stunning strokeplay in the final of the A Team Tri-Series, which saw India A lock horns against Sri Lanka A, at the same venue, Dambulla. In all honesty, the 15-year-old batter appeared to be in absolute control from the word go, as he amassed 94 runs from merely 29 deliveries – an innings that gave India A a huge edge. Here’s the catch – the impressive innings came just a couple of days after the youngster was involved in one very dramatic and controversial scene on the ground involving some of the Sri Lanka A players. (@CricCrazyJohns) June 21, 2026 A day before the final, Sooryavanshi created an Instagram story, which got attention pretty quickly. He uploaded a photo from his stint with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, and the caption to it was rather short, about 100 words. Sure enough, many people made the connection and said that it seemed like he was “aiming for the hundred” in the final against Sri Lanka A team. Well, not quite; he fell short of six runs, but his innings became the talk of the game anyway. Sooryavanshi dismantles Sri Lanka A attack India A batted first, and as soon as he got the chance to face, Sooryavanshi went after the bowlers in a very straightforward, no-hope kind of way. He thumped 10 fours and 8 sixes in that explosive spell, while staying at the crease for a brief but massive run-scoring burst. He’s left-handed by the way, and he really tore into the Sri Lankan bowling lineup, racing to 94 in only 29 deliveries. That attack-first mindset gave India A the perfect beginning for the title clash. Also worth noting, he and Priyansh Arya put together an outstanding opening partnership of 132 runs, under 9 overs. Arya made 39 off 29 balls, then both openers got out in quick succession, and that’s when the momentum shifted slightly. Also Read | Will Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant Feature in IND vs ENG ODIs? BCCI Shares Big Update Clash With Sri Lanka A Added Extra Spark The final itself arrived just about a week after a dramatic Super Over showdown between these teams. In that earlier match, Sooryavanshi found himself in a confrontation with a few Sri Lanka A players, right after India A ended up on the losing side. As he walked back towards the dressing room, some Sri Lankan players showed up, and it seemed like they were trading words with him, not exactly quietly. Then the youngster turned around and approached them. Things got a bit tense fast, when he pushed all-rounder Vishen Halambage, though senior player Niroshan Dickwella stepped in, and helped cool everything down. So because of all that, a lot of fans were quietly, but also intensely, waiting to see how Sooryavanshi would behave in the final. India A Build a Massive Total After the opening pair were dismissed, captain Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad kept the momentum rolling. Together they added 84 runs for the third wicket, and the scoreboard kept moving without much friction. Tilak finished another half-century, his fourth in the tournament, while Gaikwad chipped in with 40 runs off 51 balls. At the time of writing, India A had reached 340 for 8 in 48.2 overs. And a big chunk of that was because of the explosive start provided by Sooryavanshi. His knock didn’t only give India A a strong base, it also showed he can handle pressure, especially on a big day when everything is loud and watching.
