Young leg-spinner Usman Qadir, the son of the legendary cricketer Abdul Qadir, has announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket. Usman was included in Pakistan's squad in November last year, played just one One-Day Internationals and 25 T20Is, and picked up 32 wickets in total. In a social media post, Usman said: "Today, I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket, and as I reflect on this incredible journey, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. It has been an immense honor to represent my country, and I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way." The last game for Pakistan that the 31-year-old played in was Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. He recently played for Dolphins in the domestic one-day Champions Cup where he took four wickets in two games. He added: “As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me. I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together. Thank you for everything." In July this year, Usman had claimed that his inclusion in the national side was opposed by former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez. He had also asserted that the then Pakistan Captain for T20I, Shaheen Afridi, had promised him a slot in the squad for the New Zealand series in January if he performed well in domestic cricket. However, he was left out of the 15-man squad.
