The USA cricket team has made an exceptional record in the history of One Day Internationals by defending 123 runs against Oman at Al Ameerat in the ICC ODI World Cup League 2 match. This happened on February 18, a day before the Champions Trophy 2025 kicks in. Notably, the USA is not included among the eight teams considered for the mini-World Cup version. Speaking about the match between Oman and the United States of America, coming to bat first, the UAE batters were bowled out for 122 runs. However, in the second inning, the bowlers quickly cleared the Oman batters, bowling them out within just 65 runs. With that, the UAE not only ensured a dominant win of 65 runs but also broke India’s record after 40 years. India earlier had the record of defending the lowest total of 125 against Pakistan. It happened in the Four Nation Cup back in 1985, where India defeated Pakistan by 38 runs in the 50-over format. This record was unbroken for 40 years, until the UAE surpassed India, creating a new record for the lowest total ever defended. Nosthush Kenjige delivered a career-best performance, taking 5 wickets for just 11 runs as Oman collapsed for 65. A total of 19 wickets fell to spin, equaling the record set in a 2011 ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The combined total of 187 runs across both innings became the second-lowest aggregate in a completed men’s ODI, behind India and Bangladesh’s 163-run game in 2014. This match follows Paarl Royals’ milestone of bowling 20 overs of spin in a T20 SA20 game, reinforcing the growing impact of spin bowling in modern cricket.
