Wicketkeeper-batsman Urvil Patel, who has been one of the revelation players of IPL 2025, spoke about being offered by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and title-winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on the same day. Urvil disclosed how he had to make a difficult choice that ultimately found him wearing the yellow jersey. Urvil was sold to the IPL 2025 auction for a base price of INR 30 lakhs but remained unsold despite having a phenomenal run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he hit two tons, one of which was a 28-ball hundred, the quickest Indian to score a T20 ton. Earlier, he was with the Gujarat Titans in 2023 (having not made a playing appearance), and the right-handed batman was again on the bench following the mega auction. But halfway through IPL 2025, CSK's Vansh Bedi got injured, and in response, CSK signed Patel for the rest of the season. Interestingly, RCB too approached the cricketer as an alternative for the injured Devdutt Padikkal. Here is what he said: "When I came to know about it, I was very excited because I remember there were two good news for me on the same day. I first got a call from RCB that Devdutt Padikkal might have been injured. So, they were looking for a replacement. So, they called me first, but they didn’t confirm whether they would pick me. They asked me to come for a 15-day trial,” Also Read | Vasuki Koushik Leaves Goa, Karun Nair Returns to Karnataka But within an hour of that, CSK's scout and analyst AR Srikkanth called Urvil with a more solid offer. Despite CSK not making it to the playoffs in 2025 and ending up at the bottom of the table, Urvil's performance did not go unnoticed. He played in three games and scored 68 runs at a strike rate of 212.5, as CSK won two of those games. "After one hour, I got a call from CSK. Srikanth Sir from scouting called me and said they are considering me as a replacement player. So, be ready. So, I was confused. I said, ‘Sir, RCB also called me.’ He said they were sure about my inclusion in the team. He told me to be ready and wait for BCCI’s approval. It was a very good moment for me. I remember we were on vacation, so the family was together. I remember the call was around 1 pm, and I told the family in the evening that it’s clear that I am going to CSK," he added.
